Dr. Michaleli is a licensed psychologist with extensive experience in perinatal mental health support in the national and private health system (Athens General Children’s Hospital, “Alexandra” Hospital, Maternity Hospital “Elena Venizelou”, among others). She is a member of the Hellenic Psychoanalytic Society (HPS), the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), and the European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis (SEPEA). She is also a psychosomatic psychotherapist, trained at the Paris Institute of Psychosomatics (IPSO-PARIS), and a member of the Hellenic Psychosomatic Society. Dr. Michaleli is a founding member (1993) and former president (2013-2019) of the Hellenic Society for Infant Mental Health.
For the past twenty-five years, Dr. Michaleli has been actively involved in training perinatal health care professionals to detect, treat, and prevent the psychopathology of this period. Her research, clinical experience, and teaching are focused on the psychoanalytical approach to the perinatal period, the reproductive process, and the early traumatic experiences of this period. She maintains a private practice in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, providing parent, parent-infant, and adult therapy. Her innovative contribution to perinatal psychoanalysis while working with parents and babies and training a multidisciplinary team of health professionals received an IPA podcast interview. Dr. Michaleli studied clinical psychology and psychopathology at the University of Sorbonne (Paris V – René Descartes). She holds a PhD in Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has served as the scientific coordinator of the Horizon European Program “Birth and Future- Training of Trainers for a Medico-Psychological Approach of Perinatal Age” (1996-2000). Notably, this project is encompassed by the European Commission’s Mental Health Directorate in the mental health promotion programmes for children up to 6 years in Europe. Dr. Michaleli has lectured in the postgraduate programme of Reproductive-Regenerative Medicine of the First Obstetrics-Gynaecology Clinic, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Between 2014 and 2016, she was also responsible for the scientific coordination of the training programme on Mental Health Promotion During Pregnancy, the Neonatal and Infant Periods, co-organised by the Hellenic Society for Infant Mental Health and the Child Health Unit of the National School of Public Health. Her research and clinical work features in IPA’s forthcoming collective volume Applying Psychoanalysis in Medical Practice (Routledge 2022).
